AK Party Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayoral Candidate Murat Kurum attended the 4th Facility Management Summit organized by the Turkish Urban Facility Management Association (TRKTYD). The program was attended by Murat Kurum, as well as Deputy Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Hasan Suver, Istanbul MP Nilhan Ayan, AK Party Sarıyer District President Halil İbrahim Kurşun, Turkish Urban Facility Management Association President Suat Sandalcı, other Sarıyer Mayor Candidate candidates, and many members of the association. The program began with a moment of silence and the national anthem. Then, a video showing the activities of the association was shown. A painting was presented to Murat Kurum during his speech. At the end of the program, TRKTYD regional leaders received their credentials from Kurum.
“Facility management is still a new and growing industry in Turkey”
Kurum said in his speech, “We follow closely the efforts of the Turkish Urban Facility Management Association. Our association took the first step concerning the management of site, apartment and collective residential areas, which have become increasingly important lately. The fact that the industry operates under one roof has made urban facility management more functional. Facility management is still a new and growing industry in Turkey. This industry began with the construction of office buildings and shopping malls in Istanbul in the 1990s and has spread rapidly throughout cities in the last 20 years. Today, the presence of a government that activates the full potential of the construction industry, combined with the rising purchasing power in the real estate sector and an increase in quality housing projects, is the main reason for this. Thanks to the country’s and our nation’s wealth, we are moving away from shanty towns and decaying areas and towards collective structures and neighborhoods at a fast pace. The abundance of collective structures, especially in Istanbul, and the widespread presence of over 5,000-strong neighborhoods have significantly increased the importance of facility management,” he said.
“We will establish health centers in neighborhoods”
Kurum announced that they will establish health centers in neighborhoods and stated, “We have many innovations on our agenda to improve the quality of site management and to make the lives of our citizens more comfortable and of higher quality. On request from our condominium owners, we want to bring many services to the common areas of our sites. Our young people and school-age children will do their homework in study centers. We will establish health centers in neighborhoods. In these health cabins, we will check the blood pressure and sugar levels and give injections to the elderly and mobility-impaired individuals. Some of our residents are facing problems with the dues. In some areas, condominium owners are charged exorbitant amounts, almost equivalent to a rent. We will not allow high increases in dues,” he said.
“The CHP administration is just like Don Quixote”
Emphasizing that the current IMM administration is dealing with imaginary problems in Istanbul, Kurum said, “I will be your voice, your right hand together with our President. We will work together as IMM and district municipalities by exercising common sense without political parties and points scoring. Of course, the CHP administration is going to attack us. They will be Don Quixote like they always are, tilting at windmills. Our opposition is using public resources to make you feel that you are faced with problems. Istanbul was ranked the fifth most livable city in the world. Let us come together, work together for a more livable Istanbul. Let us create a unique project for Istanbul. We have already posted these projects on our website now. We will accomplish these projects step by step. We will make Istanbul a city that serves people. Without discrimination, we will bring the services of IMM to all neighborhoods. We will take conscious and responsible steps that will make you say ‘these people work day and night for us’,” he said.
